Testimonials

Lara has an unparalleled gift to see individual bodies and work with/meet people where they are at.  I have attended every level class with her at the Iyengar Institute in New York and seen her help, challenge, and inspire all levels of students from beginners to advanced practitioners/teachers.  She gives beautiful and clear demonstrations that give her students a greater understanding and exemplify and embody a level of awareness and dynamism to aspire towards.  ~K.C.

I have been a student at Lara’s retreats for over a decade and have had a unique experience each year.  Lara customizes her instruction to suit the dynamic of the particular group on the retreat as well as my specific abilities and constraints in that moment.  She is a teacher’s teacher — a wealth of knowledge, experience, and technique.  For me, a week with Lara is the opportunity to “level up” my yoga practice and body awareness in both organized conscious and organically subconscious ways.  I always leave at the end of the week feeling more balanced in mind and body than when I started, and ready to meet the world from my best vantage point. ~Nick S.

Lara Warren is a rare and uniquely talented yoga instructor who is especially gifted at understanding and working with students who have bodies very different from her own. I recall the first time I attended one of her retreats. I had not taken a single class with her before the retreat and was amazed at the consistently insightful individual instruction I received as a new student of hers. She navigated my needs as a middle-aged male athlete better than any Iyengar yoga instructor I had ever studied with, and I left that retreat feeling a powerful change to my body and mind. There's no one I trust more to guide me to balance and health than Lara. - Adam

I’ve been a dedicated student of Lara for many years, in classes both in person and online, on multiple intensive retreats, workshops, and a very special teacher training program. Eventually in deepening my practice and teaching I also had the privilege of having her as my mentor in the journey of getting certified in the Iyengar lineage. Each time I practice with her I am able to deepen my understanding on multiple planes. Lara’s unique combination of experienced, intelligent and playful exploration of yoga empowers her students to approach their own practice with a similarly fresh and curious mind. This has given me not only the knowledge and methodology but also the mindset that enables me to adapt my practice and teaching for any given condition, ever-expanding the maps of my self awareness and freedom of body mind and spirit.

Lara has one of a kind demonstrations, and an incredible ability to observe and explore students’ practice. This combined with her caring and diligent use of language makes her instructions and adjustments unlock vast moments of self discovery, awareness and freedom.

Her incredible depth of knowledge and experience, and uniquely skilled way of weaving the teachings in multiple layers, build over time through mindful integration, on and off the mat.  ~Naz K.

It’s been just about 2 years since I started practicing with you!  I love your classes so much!  I love seeing you demonstrate. I love all the details and the encouragement for us to have our own experiences.  I love all the references to your teachers and your teachers’ teachers!  I love the personal attention you give.  I love the format of the week - each day being dedicated to its own focus and that each day informs and relates to the other days in the week.  I love learning how to use props and figuring out what works for me.  I love and appreciate that you care!  The way you teach brings a playfulness along with technique and the feeling part.  Even though there are still parts of my body I’m not quite in touch with (hello shoulder blades), I think that the more I practice the more chance I have discovering things about my body and my breath that will give me a better life. I love the time you take for pranayama, restorative yoga and rest!  I love that you teach how to use the breath, how to regulate the breath and how the breath regulates us. I love when you reference Prashant and Geeta’s teachings and weave Patanjali’s yoga sutras into the asana practice.  Thank you, Robin S

Today was maybe the first time that I understood why it's called "Bridge Pose"--I felt like a bridge, with my heels and shoulders anchoring the 2 points, and my legs and torso going in opposite directions! Also, on Monday, when we did dwi pada viparita dandasana with the back supported, I felt like I could keep curling backwards forever…AMAZING! These little momentary achievements are so satisfying. Thank you, always, for being such a great teacher and guide--in yoga and life!   xo, Elaine C

I just wanted to let you know that it has been six years since I started studying with you.  Before taking your classes, I had practiced vinyasa and ashtanga yoga with various teachers.   From my first class with you, it was clear to me that you possessed an exceptional command of the asanas and the ability to clearly demonstrate and convey  their  physical elements and underlying philosophy.  Your gifts as a teacher confirmed for me Krishnamacharya’s words, that “yoga will end in awareness.”  Your engaging, direct and upbeat style of teaching make every class a pleasure. I will continue to take every opportunity to attend as many of your classes as possible.  ~Erik L

It's always a pleasure, a discovery, a pure joy to learn! You are so inspiring, creative, generous, positive....Thank you from the bottom of my heart!  Jacqui L

I would like to thank you for all that I have learned from you this past year, not only in my yoga practice which I feel has evolved into a more mature and sensible practice but also in the ways you teach us to approach life, with curiosity and care, being present in the present, and that change can come with subtle adjustments.

Un gran abrazo,  Karin M

I can't really express how much I appreciate these almost three years of daily practicing with you. Your classes have been fundamental to my daily routine that keeps me grounded. I've felt so blessed to be able to participate all the way from the very beginning of the pandemic. Please know that I am so very grateful for your dedication and thoughtfulness, even though I may be one of the more silent members of your classes.

All the best,  Daphne S

I am so enjoying your classes. In last Friday's class in savasana you gave an amazing simple breath direction which had a very profound impact on me. I feel like it washed through me deeply and i can barely remember the instruction given as if i was in a heightened embodied state. i would love to experience it again and see what unfolds.... if possible, can I get the recording. i would happily do all of it one more time:) -O.M.

Lara,  Beautiful class as always. I have been so lucky to have found you as a teacher.  ~Jon K

I have been a student of Lara's for over 10 years (since 2010).  While I benefited from her classes at a studio, I was always left wishing I could study more in depth and intensively with her.  When I started attending her annual retreats, I saw a tremendous shift in my understanding of my practice and body.  Being in a closed container setting of a retreat where I could focus solely on my wellness, health, and practice, without the distractions of work and everyday life, was simultaneously healing, inspiring, and relaxing.  T.S.
